KORG – VOX Super Continental v1.1.3 STANDALONE, VSTi3, AAX x64
Originally conceived in the early 1960s as a more portable and affordable alternative to tonewheel organs, the VOX Continental’s distinctive sound – and its sharp red and black design – soon made it a staple of British Invasion bands. The Continental’s bright tone and bold attitude paired perfectly with jangly guitars and cut through the mix easily on stage and in the studio.
The legendary VOX Continental organ has been faithfully recreated
in the VOX Super Continental software!
Originally conceived in the early 1960s as a more portable and affordable alternative to wheel organs, the VOX Continental, with its distinctive sound and striking red and black design, soon became a staple of the British Invasion. The Continental’s bright tone and brash character were the perfect complement to jangly guitars and stood out easily from the mix on stage and in the studio.
Production ceased around 1970, but a new generation of ska, garage, punk and new wave bands began using these instruments in the 70s and 80s. Battered and worn from decades of use, and not particularly stable to begin with, these instruments tend to be charmingly out of tune. As the contacts aged, each note began to sound slightly different. With its unique sound, combining electric timbre with vintage character, the Vox Continental has become a fixture in the scene and studio, especially in the indie music scene.
The KORG VOX Super Continental collection began as a meticulous recreation of a number of Continental keyboards, including a beloved instrument personally owned by the software’s lead developer, with the goal of reproducing the Super Continental sound as accurately as possible. This analysis included details such as the behavior of hundreds of individual key contacts, and is the most accurate VOX Continental software tool available!
Calibrated Symbol
The VOX Continental oscillators are based on unstable germanium transistors. Octave dividers mean that octaves are always pure, but all other intervals may be at least slightly out of tune (and often much more so). This creates a characteristic choral effect when playing chords and adds a special charm to melodies.
Individual notes are created by combining the overtones produced by the fretboards. Each key has up to five contact wires, one for each neck. When each wire touches its neck, a corresponding overtone sounds (often with a small burst of noise). Over the years, the contacts tend to wear and shift, so the wires touch the necks at different times. This gives each note a unique character when you press and release the key.
All of these imperfections are carefully modeled, and calibration controls let you customize them just the way you like.
Improved User Experience
Smooth sound transitions allow previously played voices and effects to naturally continue playing as you change sounds. KORG’s improved sound browser supports categories, text search, and more. On-screen help provides information and helpful tips for each panel, knob, and switch.
The VOX Super Continental effects
were almost always connected to an amp, so of course we have a choice of amp and cabinet models, as well as a stunning rotary speaker. There are two effects pre-amp, one post-amp, and finally a dedicated reverb slot. For effects, you can choose from 30 types, including vintage pedals and tape delays, as well as modern reverse delays and shimmering reverbs.
