Toontrack – EZdrummer 3.1.0 STANDALONE, VSTi3, AAX, AU WIN.OSX x64

Installation is possible on a “clean” system, or over a previously installed version.

Release notes for EZdrummer 3.1.0

CHANGES

General

Minimum OS requirements have been raised to macOS 10.13 and Windows 10.
Added accessibility (screen reader) support.
Plug-in parameters are now named like the mixer knobs that they control.
Not installed core libraries are now shown under a header “Core Libraries – Not Installed” in the menu.
Mouse wheel step sizes have been changed for most knobs and sliders (though this does not affect “smooth mouse wheels,” such as trackpads). If Shift is pressed, the step/change will be smaller.
“50%” has been added to the available GUI scales.
125% scale should look sharper now (on “low-resolution” screens).
Pitch and volume for each instrument are now saved in the kit presets. Old kit presets also reset volume and pitch.
Main tab graphics/colors have been slightly changed.
The loading bar now flashes when sounds finish loading instead of when they start loading.
After importing an EZdrummer 2 project, saving will now suggest using the name of the project that was imported (instead of Untitled).

VST 3

In REAPER 7.34 (after clearing its VST cache) and Cubase/Nuendo 12.0.52 and later (and any other hosts supporting “IPluginCompatibility” added in VST SDK 3.7.5), EZdrummer 3 can now be loaded in DAW projects created on “the other OS” (macOS or Windows). For other hosts, an option has been added in Settings > Advanced, allowing you to select if the VST 3 should use its Mac ID or its Windows ID.

Song Track

“Paste on Selected Groove” now repeats the copied MIDI to fill the entire length of the selected groove.
The tempo button is now disabled when Follow Host is active.
Unmapped notes are now drawn above mapped ones instead of not at all.
The audio export dialog now allows for adding a name prefix. For example “My Song” will generate files like “My Song_Out_1+2.wav.”

Edit Play Style

If you change articulation for a snare from Center to Rimshot, any ghost notes are now kept playing Center.

Grooves Tab

Clicking in empty space below folders will now deselect everything in that column.
Added a “Select/Deselect” menu option for folders.
“Show MIDI Files from Subfolders” option is now global instead of being saved per project.
Changes within user folders in the OS will now be detected so that the “unsynced files” icon pops up on affected folders.
New design in the result view for when an empty User MIDI folder is selected.
Unmapped notes are now drawn above mapped ones and with a lower opacity instead of not at all.
You can now use Cmd/Ctrl-C shortcut to copy a groove from the result list.
Filter selection logic has been updated. Mainly, clicking (without keyboard modifiers) on an already selected filter will now deselect it if it is the only selected filter in the column, but if there are multiple, the clicked filter will become the only selected filter.

Tap2Find

The Tap2Find step sequencer now has different mouse cursors and hover effects.
When MIDI from the Song Track is used with Tap2Find, the time signature from the Song Track is used now instead of from the original MIDI file.

Grid Editor

On Mac, the default keyboard shortcuts for vertical zoom in/out are now Alt-Plus/Minus instead of Shift-Plus/Minus.
When notes become selected, if all selected notes with Humanize active use the same Velocity Style (i.e., there is no mix of styles), that style becomes the default (to be used the next time Humanize is turned on for any notes).
The Auto function of Swing Resolution has been improved to analyze the overall resolution of the selection instead of always using the smallest resolution.
The state of expanded rows is now saved in projects and will also be retained when switching presets within the same library.

Mixer

On/off macro controls are now buttons instead of knobs (for example in the Signature EZXs).

Bandmate

In certain EZXs with melodic instruments, notes for those instruments are excluded from the Bandmate results.

E-Drums

Added presets: Alesis Strata Core, Alesis Strata Prime, ddrum DDTi, DWe, EFNOTE 3, EFNOTE 5, EFNOTE 7, Roland SPD-SX PRO, Roland TD-02, Roland TD-07, Roland TM-2, Roland V71, Simmons Titan 70.

Settings

If a new sound path is selected in Settings, it is immediately applied – a restart is no longer needed.

Standalone

Bluetooth MIDI devices are now supported by the Mac standalone.

Installation

On Mac, deleting a plug-in or the standalone from disk and running the software installer will no longer deselect it by default on the Customize page. To stop installing a certain plug-in format, you will now need to run the uninstaller first, then deselect the format in the installer.

BUG FIXES

General

In Studio One on Mac with the “graphics hardware acceleration” option enabled, the GUI should no longer be slow and choppy.
In Logic Pro on Apple silicon Macs, MIDI Out should no longer cause crashes.
In Apple hosts on Apple silicon Macs, the mouse cursor could in some cases become stuck being the wrong kind of cursor, for example in the Grid Editor after duplicating notes using Alt-drag.
Added workarounds for ACID Pro so that the VST 3 would produce sound there and be able to receive MIDI from the host.
“Save a Copy” did not work correctly – any subsequent normal “Save” would write to the copy instead of to the original file (or instead of showing a save dialog if the project had not been normally saved yet).
Changing presets no longer briefly adds an asterisk after the old preset name.
In Pro Tools, setting a new default project in EZdrummer 3 and adding a new instance (in the same session) would not use the new default project.
In Pro Tools, trying to switch to a larger GUI scale could in some cases cause a crash.
On Mac, opening the plug-in window in certain hosts could cause a crash if the window size had previously been set very, very large.
Having the metronome routed to an output channel where no other audio got routed could cause a crash.
Loading a project containing user audio samples could in some cases cause a crash.
When a project is opened and a user audio file that was loaded on an instrument is missing, if you skip it and load something else on the instrument, now the dialog about the missing file won’t be shown if you save the project and load it again.
Several bug fixes for Undo History.
The host was in many cases not notified when something changed inside the plug-in.
Using Program Change or Bank Select to change libraries or presets could cause a crash, if done when the plug-in window was closed.
Controls controlled by MIDI Learn while the plug-in window was closed did not always show the correct values when the window was opened again.
Loading presets and projects in a certain order in Modern Metal EZX would give unexpectedly high output volumes.
Importing MIDI files containing MIDI events using note 0 no longer causes crashes.
Loading a project while playing in the Grooves browser and also having a Tap2Find groove loaded could cause a crash.
Quitting a DAW with certain EZD3 dialogs open would cause a crash.
On Mac in scales other than 100%, text did not have exactly the intended width (kerning), in some cases causing for example button texts to not fit.

Audio Engine

For some unusual block sizes at 44.1 kHz sample rate, MIDI events were not rendered at the correct time.
Certain MIDI sequences caused the choking of sounds through Channel Aftertouch not to work.
Soloing a cymbal caused the choke notes not to play.
Using a host that can send negative sample positions (like Cubase) no longer causes cracks and pops when playback is started at such negative times.

Song Track

If a repeat resize (with Alt modifier on Mac, Ctrl on Windows) had been done previously, dragging from the Grooves browser to the song track could cause a crash.
A repeat resize on a deselected block would repeat selected block(s) (if such existed) instead of the one clicked on.
Dragging from right to left with the Pencil Tool to add a MIDI block would set the end position of the new block one “snap length” too far to the right.
Resizing the left side of a block could in some rare cases mute some of the first hits in that block.
The standalone would crash if audio was exported with more than one pair of stereo channels selected as output in Audio/MIDI Setup.
While recording in a loop in a DAW, SD3 could incorrectly show a Similar MIDI alert when looping back.
During recording, all pre-existing CC changes on the track were ignored. Now this is only done for controllers that have got new values.
Certain microphones not directly related to specific instruments would not get included in audio exports.
“Select Containing Folder in Grooves” should now work properly even after opening a project on a different computer or after performing “Restore MIDI Database” in Settings. It will also work on grooves dragged from the Song Creator drop zone or from the Bandmate output track.
Moving the playhead using keyboard shortcuts now properly takes time signature changes into account.
In the time signature editor, the right-click menu option for removing selected time signatures is now enabled/disabled in the correct scenarios.
Duplicating more than one loop at a time on the song track could in some cases cause a crash.

Edit Play Style

Increasing Amount and pressing play could silence the groove until a newly added note was passed.
Amount didn’t always use the correct time signature when adding notes.
Moving Power Hand from a ride to a crash cymbal could make the notes play on articulation “Bow” although the Power Hand sign said “Crash.”
In some cases, it did not work to press the power button on a percussion pad to turn it off.
Trying to open the Opening Hit menu for a MIDI block with no mapped notes would cause a crash.

Drums Tab

Previewing certain instruments (e.g. cymbals in Claustrophobic EZX or instruments with different number of articulations) in the instrument selection list could cause a crash.
The articulation preview sometimes didn’t make any sound for a user sample that was not the currently loaded one.
Using Preset Stack on “Original Snare Only” wouldn’t work if you changed the snare/kit via the “Drum Kits” menu.
Replacing an instrument using alternating hit patterns with a different one could make unexpected articulations be used.
In some libraries, replacing instruments with a certain kind of instruments from other libraries didn’t properly route some mics from the imported drum to mixer channels in the library.
Using the instrument right-click menu to change an instrument back to the default from one in a different library did not update available articulations for the instrument.
When an instrument from a different library is loaded, the header in the instrument right-click menu now shows the correct position name for that instrument.
Clicking on an instrument with no sound loaded would show the “instrument not loaded” icon both when the mouse was pressed and when it was released – now only when pressed.

Grooves Tab

Using arrow keys to navigate could in some cases cause a crash.
Using File > New will now properly update the grooves browser result list.
Loading a project will now properly update the active/inactive states of folders based on active filters.
Excluding a folder will no longer disable all filters.
Clicking the favorite button while connecting to Webshop MIDI could cause a crash.
Performing “Restore MIDI Database” in the Advanced tab in Settings now properly turns off Webshop MIDI.
Changing the GUI scale no longer removes the “Selected folder is empty” dialog if it is shown. Also, the dialog will be removed as soon as a new search is performed.
The list of suggested words when writing in the search field is no longer reversed with every letter typed.
Previewing MIDI files will now properly set CC values that were activated before the current playhead time.

Tap2Find

Click-dragging to remove notes in Tap2Find now properly removes all notes dragged over.
Changing libraries while playing the Tap2Find groove would not continue playback properly.
Dragging unsupported files will no longer highlight the Tap2Find drop zone as a valid drop target.

Grid Editor

Removing notes could in certain cases cause a crash.
Turning on Humanize would make the program freeze in some cases.
Loading a project with the grid editor set to triplet snap did not result in the correct grid line resolution.
Playing in the DAW with Follow Host on so that the song track length was extended did not graphically update and expand the Grid Editor.
Moving the left edge of a MIDI block to the right and then adding a note in the grid in that area so that the block was expanded back to the left would make old notes in that part reappear.
Adjacent MIDI blocks are no longer merged when a note is added and the new note does not actually overlap both blocks.
Using Humanize will now properly extend the MIDI block to the left if notes are moved outside the block.
Manually changing note velocity or timing would not graphically turn off Humanize even though it was internally turned off.
After copying notes using Cmd/Ctrl-drag, the wrong set of notes was selected.
Changing note selection with keyboard shortcut would discard any timing modifications added to previous selection and would instead apply them to the newly selected note.
The Exclude feature in the Select menu should now work properly.
Fixed a potential crash when Future Hit notes were added.
Pasting Future Hit notes in the grid would always paste them as immediate hits.
Pasting Future Hit notes would sometimes paste them offset from the playhead, making the new notes play out of time.
When percussion notes from a non-expanded percussion row were moved or copy-dragged to another non-expanded percussion row, all articulations were set to the first articulation of the new instrument.
Moving notes between Future Hit articulations and non-Future Hit articulations/instruments could alter the velocities.
It was not always possible to move a percussion note with velocity 127 from articulation Shake to Accent.
It was not possible to add a Future Hit note at the position where the previous note would make its sound.
Clicking on a choke row in the grid editor did not choke the cymbal.
Sometimes, notes would not be graphically updated when sliders in the velocity editor were used.
Loading a project now properly updates the CC editor to the saved state.
In CC editors, tooltips would stop working after a mouse press on a node with a tooltip (until the mouse was moved out from the view).
Removing a MIDI block from the song track did not graphically remove contained AT blocks from the Channel AT editor.
Inserting a new AT block that would increase the length of the MIDI block could incorrectly make a preceding AT block longer.

Mixer

The percussion pad mics were not routed properly when Multichannel was selected from the Mixer menu.
The Solo states for buses were not saved in projects.
Macro controls that are assigned to master bus effects are now disabled in the GUI, with an info sign covering the controls, when multi-out mode is used. The effects were previously only disabled in the engine.
The macro control area now has a scrollbar when needed.

Bandmate

The waveform was not drawn correctly in Bandmate if zoomed in enough.
Input audio/MIDI no longer jumps back and forth when being resized towards the edge of the track with Snap off.
Fixed a case where the time bar could become displaced.
Clicking on filters or saving the project while a search was being done could cause a crash.
Dropping a MIDI file with only unmapped notes on the Bandmate output track would cause a crash.
Having the MIDI libraries installed on a case-sensitive file system would cause Bandmate to never give any results from Grooves, only “generated” ones.

Settings

“Reset to Default Path” was never enabled in the User Presets path menu.
Conflicts in keyboard shortcuts were not shown on all involved shortcuts.

E-Drums

Note Ons were not registered in the e-drums velocity editor if they came just after a CC event.

Standalone

In the standalone, switching between certain GUI scales with the window at minimum width or height could make thin lines appear in various buttons and other GUI elements.
Improved fullscreen support on Mac, for example, it now works better to change the scale while in fullscreen mode.
Trying to open a project file from Finder/Explorer while a native file/folder selection dialog was open in the standalone could cause a crash.
